Efforts on to capture two elephants

Efforts to capture two trouble-making elephants in and around Polibetta area of Kodagu district have not yielded any result even after more than two weeks.

The Centre had accorded permission to capture two elephants that were causing trouble to people and raiding crops in those areas sometime ago.

Medicines needed to immobilise and revive the animals during the operation had not arrived last week. A 25-member search team of the Forest Department has been combing Polibetta, Thithimathi and nearby areas, the most vulnerable in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu for more than 15 days, but had not been able to track the elephants.

Palanganda family team won “Machamada Cup 2011”, Kodava hockey festival, by scraping past the Kaliyanda family team by a solitary goal in the finals played at Ponnampet in Kodagu on Sunday.

Palanganda Muthanna scored the field goal in the 23rd minute of the match.

This was the 15th edition of the Kodava hockey festival.

International hockey player Palanganda Amar Aiyamma was adjudged the player of the series. M.P. Appachu Ranjan, Madikeri MLA, inaugurated the finals.
